Artist : Felipe Morales ~Biography
Felipe Morales Felipe Morales was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1949. Felipe studied at Manhattan College, School of Visual Arts and received his Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts at College of Mount Saint Vincent's in Mt. Vernon, New York in 1976. Felipe grew up in the Bronx and worked as a youth counselor and art teacher on Simpson Street. He was also instrumental in the founding of El Museo del Barrio in Manhattan, as well as part of the teaching faculty. Years later, Felipe was featured in the documentary "Simpson Street" that showed the burning of the South Bronx. He moved to Orlando, Florida in 1980 where he worked as a jeweler and clothing designer. In 1993, he became an Art Teacher for Orange County Public School System and retired in 2012. During these years, he was President and Vice President of the Florida Chalk Artist Association. Felipe participated in numerous chalk festivals and won several first place in events such as the Rotary Club Art Festival and Disney Festival of the Masters. In recent years, he has been working on commissioned sculptures for S.E.B.C.O Housing in the Bronx, New York, The Puerto Rican Bar Association in Orlando, Florida and the New York Sports Foundation, a commemorative sculpture for Roscoe Brown a Tuskegee Airman.
